Family Fun Event!!!

Family Fun Event Announcement

Indianapolis Zoo

Lions, Tigers, Bears and Dolphins!!  Oh my!!

5p- Society is happy to announce that the host families have secured the Indianapolis Zoo as the Family Fun Event.

About the Zoo

At the Indianapolis Zoo, you can have three times the fun as this Zoo was the first institution to become triple accredited as a Zoo, botanical garden and aquarium. Originally established as a children's zoo, the Indianapolis Zoo began with less than 200 animals in its collection. Thanks to the tremendous community support the Zoo has received throughout the years, the 64-acre campus is now home to more than 2,000 animals and 16,000 plant specimens. Also a part of the Indianapolis Zoo, the White River Gardens contains more than 16,000 plants, including both native and exotic species, many of which are rare or historic in value. The Gardens also include a glass-enclosed conservatory, outdoor design gardens, water garden, numerous artistic fountains and features, a wedding garden for ceremonies and receptions and 1.5 miles of winding paths and walkways. Some of our feature exhibits at the Indianapolis Zoo include our underwater dolphin viewing dome, shark touch tank and the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center. The Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center opened in May 2014 and currently is the home of eight orangutan. This exhibit and structure has been crafted specifically to meet the physical, social and intellectual needs of orangutans.

The mission of the Indianapolis Zoo is to empower people and communities, both locally and globally, to advance animal conservation.

From recycling cans, cardboard and manure, to increasing the population of African elephants and rare iguanas, here's a taste of what the Indianapolis Zoo is doing to ensure the continued conservation of the natural world and wildlife across the globe.
The Indianapolis Zoo …
  • Purchases 100 percent of its electricity generated from clean, renewable energy sources.
  • Recycles cardboard that rivals the weight of six adult elephants and pallets that equal the average combined height of 98 giraffes.
  • Is the Tarangire Elephant Projects' largest contributor helping to protect the fastest growing population of African elephants on the continent by keeping their migration routes open and free of poachers.
  • Helped establish and support the International Iguana Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that brings all interested parties together and dispenses funding for relevant conservation field studies.
  • Was one of the first institutions to participate in the Species Survival Plan® (SSP).
  • Awards the biennial $250,000 Indianapolis Prize, the largest individual monetary award for animal conservation in the world.
  • Offers online tips to help everyone make a difference in our natural world.
  • Participates in Seafood Watch, a program designed to raise consumer awareness about the importance of buying seafood from sustainable sources.

Announcement of Indy Conference

2015 5p- Society Annual Conference
Indianapolis, Indiana
July 30 – August 2

“30 Years, Racing for Cri du Chat Syndrome Awareness”

The 2015 5p Minus Society’s annual conference will be hosted in Indianapolis at the Sheraton at Keystone Crossing.  Located on Indy’s trendy northeast side, the Sheraton features excellent accommodations as well as access to the Fashion Mall.  The Fashion Mall at Keystone Crossing hosts several premier shopping destinations, several restaurants and a movie theater all within walking distance.

If you choose to venture away from the Keystone area there are several exciting and fun things to do in Indianapolis.  Indianapolis is known as the racing capital of the world mostly because of its hosting of the Indianapolis 500 mile race.  Since 1911 drivers have risk life and limb to tame the 2.5 mile oval at speeds over 225 mph.  The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is also home to NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 as well as Moto GP events.  IMS features a hall of fame museum on the speedway grounds with several exhibits as well as a grounds tour that let you share in the storied tradition.

On your visit to Indy you might consider these other options as well.  The Indianapolis Children’s Museum, the largest in the world, offers five stories of excitement and education for children.  The Indianapolis Zoo, NCAA Hall of Champions, White River State Park, Indianapolis Cycloplex, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis Indians, Indianapolis Colts, Monument Circle and Circle Centre Mall all offer something for everyone with many opportunities for enjoyment.

This year, the 5p- Society Board of Directors is instituting a fundraising incentive program for those individuals that raise money for the Indy conference.  The program, Race for Rewards, will work like this:

Raise $1500.00 – Registration fee for up to 2 adults and 2 children will be waived ($150.00 value)

Raise $3000.00 – Registration fee for up to 2 adults and 2 children will be waived ($150.00) AND one night at the hotel will be free ($114++)

Raise $5000.00 – Registration fee for up to 2 adults and 2 children will be waived ($150.00) AND three nights at the hotel will be free ($342.00++)

To be eligible for the Race to Rewards program you must be a member of the 5p- Society and be in good standing (membership dues paid).  All monies raised must be received by May 31st.  You may use the Race to Rewards form to make your donation(s) online, or send in your donations to the 5p- Society office (PO Box 268, Lakewood, CA  90714) with clear instructions as to who the donations are for and that they are for the Race to Rewards program..

For those of you who raise enough funds to have one or all of your hotel rooms covered, you will be responsible for making your own hotel reservations and the 5p- Society and the Sheraton at Keystone Crossing will make an internal change.

You can now make your hotel reservations online at the Sheraton reservations link or by calling 1-888-627-7814 and telling them you are with the 5p- Society conference.

We hope you’ll make plans to attend the 30th anniversary of the 5p Minus Society in Indianapolis.  We look forward to an exciting and productive conference.
